In spite of a slightly crowded dining room, hungry patrons flock to this cozy Vietnamese restaurant, more than willing to wait for delicacies like muc xao khom (calamari with pineapple chunks, tomatoes, and onions) and banh xeo (pan-seared rice flour crepe stuffed with pork, shrimp, and bean sprouts). Although names on the menu may be unfamiliar, there really is something for every taste: myriad soups; beef, chicken, and rice dishes; seafood; noodle dishes; vegetarian plates; and even lau thap cam ­ specialty campfire pots.

DOWNTOWN. Sporting probably the best views in St. Louis, this revolving restaurant provides lofty views of the city while serving regionally-focused American fare. Try the Biloxi bouillabaisse with broccoli and red peppers for a new twist on an old favorite. Dishes from points northwest can also be had ­ salmon, ahi tuna, and jumbo shrimp are all flown in from the Pacific. A complete meal might put a dent in your wallet, but the view is such a showstopper you may not even notice.

CENTRAL WEST END. Upscale, modern, and lit by colorful paper lanterns, this restaurant fuses the cuisines of Japan, China, Vietnam, Thailand, and Korea. Black wood accents and clean lines set a muted stage for varied, well-prepared dishes. More than 25 entree choices include tempura shrimp with spicy mango dipping sauce, pan-seared lime chicken, grilled swordfish, and vegetarian pad Thai with tofu and cilantro. Cocktails from the stylish bar are a special treat ­ the Indochine Martini, made with vanilla vodka, is liquid dessert.
